Budapest Spring Fair and our favourite Easter Fairs

After a two-year pause, Budapest Spring Fair, one of the most popular events of the season will reopen in Városháza Park in the spirit of spring revival and rejuvenation. And two of our favourite Easter fairs will also be held: one in Hollókő and in the other in Mezőkövesd, called "Matyó Easter".

BUDAPEST EASTER FAIR – 26 March to 18 April

The organisers invite you to enjoy unique handicraft products, culinary specialities, family programmes and activities on weekends, the permanent exhibition of the Míves Tojás Múzeum [Museum of Adorned Eggs] and a beautiful vintage carousel set up in Városháza Park.

On the opening weekend of the Spring Fair, on 26 and 27 March, the organisers also host a series of free concerts. Let's open the season together with the best of the best in the country: Solére, OHNODY Acoustic, Blahalouisiana, Budapest Bar on Saturday and Saya Noé, Ivan & the parazol, Punnany Massif on Sunday.

In the meantime, we'll be baking the most delicious chimney cakes, and, if the weather gets warmer, you can also try our Kürtős Raspberry Flower desserts.

MATYÓ EASTER – 17 and 18 April

If you would like to re-live the Easter traditions of bygone times and find out how the resurrection was celebrated in the rural world of old, you should definitely visit Mezőkövesd, where the Matyó Easter event has been held regularly since 2002, with a two-year break. If you do so, don't be surprised if you get a bucket of water poured on you.

Just take care not to soak your !

The majority of the events will take place in the "Hadas" district, a protected area with authentic folk architecture in the town centre. Local craftsmen showcase their skills in thatched-roofed cottages with whitewashed walls, while the courtyards and winding streets are filled with artisans selling their handcrafted goods. On Easter Sunday and Monday, you'll find us in one of those courtyards.

Now spanning four days, the Hollókő Easter Festival is a celebration of tradition and the joy of life. A place everyone should see! A rich folklore programme, Palóc gastronomy, folk traditions with the inevitable folk custom of "Easter sprinkling", concerts, family and children's activities offers guests an unforgettable experience. Between 15 and 18 April, a continuous programme of events awaits visitors in the charming jewel-box village, where the peasant farmhouses and cobbled streets of the Old Village will transport you back in time.

The 67 red-tiled historic monument houses in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Village look just as they did a hundred years ago - much like an open-air museum. The difference is that Hollókő is a living, functioning village whose inhabitants dress up in their famous, colourful folk costumes at Easter and bring to life the best of Hungarian Easter traditions. Visitors can immerse in genuine Palóc Easter hustle and bustle, feeling like they are in the middle of a folk tale, and spend their time enjoying concerts, craft demonstrations, culinary programmes, the Egg Painting Courtyard, exhibitions and, of course, eating kürtőskalács!

We look forward to meeting you at the Budapest Spring Fair for four weeks, as well as at the two top Easter events in the country:

Hollókő Easter Festival and “Matyó Easter”!
